Unai Emery’s reaction to Joe Willock’s immense recovery tackle on Jonjo Shelvey at the weekend was priceless.
The Arsenal manager celebrated Willock’s determination as if he had just scored a goal.
The 19-year-old midfielder was dispossessed by Shelvey, but he immediately won the ball back to the sheer delight of Emery who erupted on the touchline.
Arsenal fans loved Emery’s reaction to Willock’s brilliant moment.
“Love this sort of encouragement from a manager,” one Twitter user wrote.
A second tweeted: “My f***ing manager.”
A third added: “Love it, if this doesn’t gass the players I dont know wot will.”
A fourth said: “Love this geezers passion for us.” Another said: “He loves it don’t he.”
Willock started in midfield before being replaced by summer loan signing Dani Ceballos in the 64th minute.
Speaking after his side’s 1-0 victory against Newcastle United, Emery praised both Willock and Reiss Nelson.
“They are young, they need to get confidence, to get experience. But we need to be winning,” he said. “We are helping them but pushing them and our demand is a very big demand.
“They need to do one process and sometimes it’s playing like today and sometimes it’s maybe starting in the bench. But above all, they are going to be with us.
“They deserved to be with us and to give them confidence can help us.”
Arsenal resume their Premier League campaign at home to Burnley on Saturday.
