Romelu Lukaku has taken a sly dig at Manchester United by saying that he’s now doing “real work” at Inter Milan.
The 26-year-old swapped England for Italy as he secured a £74 million transfer to Inter Milan.
Antonio Conte’s already putting him through his paces and when discussing the Italian’s training methods, he appeared to take a swipe at United as he suggested Inter’s sessions are more grueling than those under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
“It’s hard man,” the Belgium striker said when asked about Inter’s training sessions.
“It’s different. In England, it’s a lot of work. But over here, it’s real work.”
Lukaku added: “The city is nice. I don’t mind, I didn’t come here to live. I came here to help the team achieve something.”
He also spoke about his diet: “Salad,” he answered when asked about the food.
The salad diet appears to be working as Lukaku smashed in four goals on his Inter Milan debut. He scored four goals against Serie D side Virtus Bergamo in a pre-season friendly.
Lukaku completed his switch to Inter Milan on Deadline Day and he revealed last season that Serie A is a league he’s always wanted to play in.
“When I left Chelsea I had the opportunity to go to Juventus,” he said in April.
“I don’t know why, but I didn’t feel it. Something didn’t convince me. The next day, Conte left Juventus.
“Serie A is a dream, it would really be a dream. I hope I can play there at some point, although right now I’m focused on United and finishing fourth.
“It was the UEFA Cup Final between Inter and Lazio [in 1998]. When I saw how Ronaldo rounded the goalkeeper I realised that if I wanted to become a professional, I would have to train very hard.”
Inter Milan kick-off their new season against Leece on August 26.
