Newcastle fan Dane brought pettiness to completely new levels this weekend when he travelled over 100 miles to let his mate know what score it was on Saturday afternoon.
Rafael Benitez’s side, who currently sit in 13th place in the Premier League ladder, secured all three points with one of the comebacks of the season at St James Park.
Everton were 2-0 up after the 32 minute mark, with goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison giving the away side a deserved lead.
But a determined Newcastle side came out a completely different outfit in the second half, with two goals from Ayoze Perez and a wonderful finish from Salomon Rondon securing an important win.
St James Park was buzzing but nobody was more excited than Newcastle supporter Dane, who travelled 110 miles to pay a special visit to his friend and Everton fan.
Dane admits that he did text him after the game but his mate chose to ignore – hence the trip.
Everton manager Marco Silva was far from happy with his team’s performance:
“We didn’t expect what happened, but it’s football. Even in the first 15 to 20 minutes in the second half we had counter-attacks – we had to kill the game in that moment.
“I cannot understand – five Newcastle players were in the same line and Rondon was offside.”
He could now face punishment from the FA for his further comments:
“When they scored the third goal it was a big mistake by the assistant, nothing more to say.
“It was a clear offside. If you see the image it’s not just one player or two players in offside positions, there were five Newcastle players in the same line in offside positions. It was a clear offside, five players in offside positions.”
