Mo Diame Agrees £100,000-A-Week Move To Qatar

Mo Diame has reportedly agreed a massive £100,000-a-week deal with Qatari outfit Al Gharafa.

The Newcastle midfielder was offered a new deal at St James’ Park but elected not to sign it, meaning his contract will expire on June 30.

But according to Lee Ryder from The Chronicle, the 32-year old won’t be a free agent for long as he has penned a two-year contract with Al-Gharafa, who recently appointed former Fulham and Watford boss Slavska Jovanovic as their new manager.

Diame’s issue with the contract Newcastle gave him was that it was one year short than what he wanted – something he discussed openly at the end of the 2018/19 campaign.

“When we were talking about my contract, I asked for two years, and they (Newcastle) don’t want that,” Diame said.

“Because we know what they want for this club; it’s difficult to get an extension when you are over 30 here.

“It’s not a problem for me; it’s football and part of the job.”

Diame first moved to English football with Wigan Athletic and later represented West Ham United and Hull City as well as Newcastle. He made a total of 239 Premier League appearances, scoring 18 goals.

There’s further uncertainty at Newcastle regarding the future of manager Rafa Benitez. With time running out before his deal expires it is looking increasingly unlikely that the former Liverpool boss will be in charge next season.

Last night it emerged that the Spaniard has been offered a £12 million-a-year deal by Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang to manage their team.
