But following the 2018 World Cup, the Ballon d’Or picture has been given a shake-up. Ronaldo and Messi were unable to deliver on the international stage.
New names entered the mix including Mbappe, not to mention Luka Modric who starred for Croatia as he captained his side to a World Cup final.
And the Paris Saint-Germain phenom reckons the
32-year-old Real Madrid star is in the running to be crowned Ballon d’Or champion.
The midfielder is also second favourite by bookies to be crowned with the prestigious gong.
As well as Modric, Mbappe has also named Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphaël Varane and himself.
Anyway, Ronaldo is the current favourite at 1/4 to be Ballon d’Or winner. Messi is priced at 12/1.
