Etihad Stadium Apparently Falls Short Of Expected Attendance For City’s Champions League Clash

Manchester City have suffered a shock opening defeat in their Champions League match against Lyon. For the reigning Premier League champions, however, it seems like they might have been lacking the fan support they would have wanted.

Apparently, the Etihad Stadium was under the 50,000-plus attendance that many people were expecting.

There are reports coming in that up to half of the seats were left empty.

The Transport for Greater Manchester, for example, had warned people that the city could be busy today due to the Champions League fixture.

For the Manchester City fans, at least they could take comfort in the fact that Pep Guardiola had occupied at least one of the empty seats.

The City boss was forced to watch the match from the stand due to a ban, with assistant coach Mikel Arteta running the show from the touchline.

The Manchester club faces Cardiff City next on Saturday.
